2011 Trout Camp at Baldwin
Trout Camp, Kids and CampfiresAbout 35 men and boys gathered at the Old Grade Campground north of Baldwin for the 2011 Trout Camp, sponsored by the True North Chapter of Christian Sportsmen’s Fellowship.
Weather cooperated nicely for fishing (cool, overcast and drizzly), but not so nicely for campfire conversation. A number of participants hooked trout in the local streams. Bait anglers tallied the most success, followed closely by spinner fishermen. The fly boys only notched a couple.
Jim Bedford was on hand, again, to provide expert instruction in the philosophy and technique of spinner fishing for trout (see video clip). Larry Hull presented the basics of fly fishing, and led a group to Indian Bridge on the Little Manistee, and demonstrated how easy it is for beginners to hook their first trout on a fly.
Breakfast burritos, deep fried catfish and corn fritters, and grilled brats with sauerkraut and beans were just a few of the menu items. The kitchen crew (again) earned the accolades from a gracious and appreciative crowd.
