FREE Fly Tying Clinic
Woolly Bugger
Sparkle DunHave you ever wanted to learn how to tie flies for fly fishing? Here’s your chance. The local chapter of Trout Unlimited (the Headwaters Chapter), is sponsoring free fly tying clinics throughout the winter.
Tying activities are open to anyone and everyone, kids and adults. You need not be a member of either Trout Unlimited, or the local chapter. And, get this--they will provide all the equipment you need, and they’ll provide the materials you’ll need to tie the flies that are being demonstrated each evening. It’s a great way to learn the basics of fly tying. Generally, 25 to 35 people show up for each outing.
Big Screen ProjectionAt each session, one or two flies will be demonstrated. The “leader” will take you through the tying process step by step. A special video camera is set up, and projects the “live action” on a large screen. It’s easy to see exactly what needs to be done to create the fly.
Tying activities take place at the Michaywe “Inn the Woods” restaurant, located south east of Gaylord on the Michaywe property. Tying begins at 6:30 pm and concludes by 8pm. No reservations are required. Just show up and take a seat.
These are the dates for the remainder of the winter: 2/3, 2/17, 3/3, 3/17, and 3/30. (Note: normally the sessions are on a Thursday evening, but the last session is on Wednesday.) Larry Hull plans on attending the final 3 sessions. If anyone is interested in car-pooling or “caravanning” with Larry from Indian River, contact Larry and let him know. His phone number is 231-238-9824. Or, email at lhull@racc2000.com
