Northern Lights 2010 Banquet

Annual Banquet AttractionsAnnual Banquet Attractions275 people were on hand at the CSF Northern Lights Chapter annual banquet this year. 16 vendors displayed outdoor activities, products and services ranging from exotic game hunting in Texas, to taxidermy, trapping, fly fishing, ATVs, pike fishing, rifle building, and more. The local Conservation Officer was on hand to answer those questions that need to be answered BEFORE you meet him in the woods.

As in the past, the highlight of the evening was the wild game tasting that takes place before the meal. This year featured nearly 20 different types of wild game and fish, including some exotic European Red Stag. A contest was held to see who could successfully guess the identities of 5 ‘mystery meats’. The winner walked away with a centerfire rifle. Not unexpectedly, no one was able to successfully identify all five meats. No one was able to identify Michigan bobcat.

This year’s guest speaker was renowned professional hunter and outdoors writer, Tracy Breen. Tracy put on a great presentation, highlighting ways of successfully hunting trophy class big game (even in Alaska) on a shoe-string budget. Tracy held the audience in rapt attention as he concluded with an account of how his own personal relationship with the Lord helps him to overcome his daily struggles with cerebral palsy.

At the conclusion of the affair, door prizes were awarded. The grand door prize was a professionally guided fly fishing float trip on the Au Sable River.
