New Angler: 30 minutes to learn the basicsDo you have an outdoors skill that you’ve been a hankering to learn?
Do you have a skill that you’re willing to teach?
When I first started fly fishing 45 years ago, no one else in my family had any knowledge or experience in that activity. Yet, as an idealistic 15-year-old, I must have thought to myself, “How hard can this be?” Finally, in my third year, I managed to catch my first trout on a fly! You want to talk about a steep learning curve!
Fly fishing is NOT that tough! And, I prove it every year, by taking “newbies” onto the stream and have them catching trout in less than a half hour. It’s something I enjoy doing. It’s just my way of steam-rolling that learning curve into a more gentle, gradual slope. Once you’ve had the exposure to fly fishing, the rest is up to you. If you enjoy it, I’ll continue to mentor your growth. If you don’t care for it; that’s fine, too. At least you’ve had a chance to take a look at it.
We have a tremendous wealth of knowledge in the CSF membership. Some of us know about deer hunting, while others trap, turkey hunt, camp or are expert in survival skills. Let’s make that knowledge available to everyone.
Do you have an outdoors skill that you’ve been a hankering to learn?
Do you have a skill that you’re willing to teach?
In either case, let me know. Shoot me an email. I’ll try to match you up with someone in our group, so we can pass along that knowledge and keep the heritage alive.
