Time to Get Involved

We can't ignore the problem any moreWe can't ignore the problem any morePENDING DISASTER

By now even the most ardent “head-in –the-sand” American has heard about the looming problem: The USA is literally on the verge of economic collapse. And, oddly enough, NO ONE disputes that! Even the current reigning president acknowledges that we have to get the deficit under control.

So what’s the problem? This country is $14.4 trillion in debt; and we add more debt each year! If the current president and Congress gets their way, the debt limit will be raised again, to accommodate the additional $1.6 trillion in debt that the government wants to add, just to make it through the current fiscal year. You have GOT to be kidding!

When this country borrows money to balance the budget, it must pay interest to the countries that it gets that money from. Last year, we payed $414 billion in interest payments alone. That means 1/5 of the $2.17 trillion we collect in taxes each year, goes JUST to pay the interest on the national debt.

If the government raises the debt limit, and allows itself to borrow another $1.6 trillion, our interest payment next year, will be even higher . . . and the next year . . . and the next year. Get it?!

We are already at the “tipping point”. Countries are balking at loaning us more money. They are fearful that they will get neither the interest payments that are due them, nor the return of the money that they loaned us. Last year, when we couldn’t find sufficient lenders, the federal reserve just “printed up” a whole bunch of extra money and distributed it to the federal government. We are already beginning to see the effects of inflation at the grocery stores.

Yes, indeed, our country is actually on the brink of bankruptcy and hyper-inflation. This is NO joke! Clearly Congress and the president don’t have the will to cut back spending and balance the budget. It’s up to us to get involved and take control of our own future.

There is a ground-swell of support across the states, to propose a National Debt Relief Amendment to the U. S. Constitution. The amendment would required that a simple majority of the states give their approval prior to the federal government incurring any additional national debt.

In other words, the federal government would no longer be able to use the “credit card” it gave itself, without first getting permission from a majority of the states. If the states didn’t give their permission, then the federal government would be forced to BALANCE the budget for that fiscal year.

What a novel idea. Did you know that 49 of the 50 states have a mandatory provision to have a balanced budget each year? Would it be ridiculous of me to assume that your own family operates from a balanced budget each year?

As you read this, the NDRA is being introduced in various state legislatures around the country. In Michigan, State Representative Tom McMillan (Rochester) plans to do the same, soon. But, he needs your support. It needs to pass both the Michigan house and senate, then be signed by the governor. If we can get 34 states to pass a similar resolution, it will force Congress to put the amendment up to a vote. If 38 of the 50 states agree with the amendment, then it will become part of the Constitution.

Here’s a link that talks about the NDRA in more detail.
